Catholic Charities of East Tennessee is proud to celebrate a significant achievement alongside CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital: receiving the 2026 Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) Community Health Impact Award for an innovative partnership that is transforming lives in the Chattanooga community.

The award recognizes the CommonSpirit Community Partnership with Catholic Charities, which was created to address a critical gap in healthcare for individuals experiencing homelessness. Together, CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital and Catholic Charities provide a safe, supportive environment where patients can recover after being discharged from the hospital, improving health outcomes and reducing barriers to long-term stability.

At the heart of this partnership is the Medical Respite program located in The Home Place in Chattanooga that offers temporary housing and comprehensive support services for individuals who need a safe place to heal. Through the program, participants receive home health services, medication assistance, and connections to primary care providers, behavioral health resources, and longer-term housing opportunities.

Recognizing the need for a coordinated approach to recovery, CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital invested $131,000 to support the program's development. This investment helped establish a model of care that addresses not only medical needs but also the social factors that can make recovery difficult without stable housing.

For individuals facing homelessness, recovering from illness or injury can be especially challenging. The Home Place provides dignity, stability, and access to vital resources during a critical stage of healing. By bringing together healthcare and social services, the partnership helps ensure patients have the support they need to recover successfully and move toward a healthier future.

This recognition from the Tennessee Hospital Association highlights the power of collaboration and the importance of innovative solutions that address both health and housing needs. It also serves as a testament to the dedication of the staff, partners, and supporters who make this life-changing work possible every day.

Please join us in celebrating this outstanding achievement and the impact this partnership continues to make in the lives of our neighbors.

Together, we are demonstrating that when healthcare providers and community organizations work hand in hand, recovery, hope, and stability become possible for those who need them most.
