Parent Place provides supervised visitation services to children and their non-custodial parents, grandparents or other relatives. Families are referred to Parent Place by the courts, the Department of Children’s Services, family therapists, attorneys and various community agencies; some families are self-referred.
How the Program Works
One of few such programs in East Tennessee, Parent Place referrals have more than doubled since 2000, the program’s first year of operation. While at Parent Place familes can prepare and enjoy meals together, play inside or outside, and generally interact in a creative, relaxed and home-like environment. Regular feedback to the custodial and non-custodial parents fosters parental cooperation, which benefits the child, and flexible hours allow working parents ample time in which to schedule visits. Healthy relationships between visiting children and non-custodial parents are consistently encouraged through modeling, education and active intervention by trained staff. Thorough appraisals of each case are sent to courts, attorneys, therapists and other professionals when appropriate or required.
In addition to supervised visitation, Parent Place also offers the Parenting Education Seminar required for divorcing parents in Tennessee.
The Greatest Need
Because more than 85 percent of Parent Place clients’ incomes qualify them for the lowest fees on our sliding scale, supplemental funding is needed to ensure that every child has access to appropriate visitation with the non-custodial parent. Your generous donation can help us close the gap between the cost of providing this vital service and our clients’ ability to pay.
